Last weekend at my flying club I joined in with the guys flying combat with their Unicorn Wings. I made it through the first round with just a lost winglet. Eight minutes into the second round, I pulled up into a loop in front of another wing and BAMM! The Unicorn Wing, which is made of EPP foam, went right through my BlueCor wing. For a $4.99 wing, it was worth it!

In rebuilding, I decided to use the CoroPlast corrugated plastic sheet I purchased on Canal Street. The wing is now a SPAD (Simple Plastic Airplane Design) and is indestructible. The wing still builds for under $5.00, sans electronics. You can find CoroPlast as low as $7.00USD for a 4′x8′ sheet, and you only need half a sheet.

I followed the same build guide and used a Kline-Folgeman airfoil. I did make a few changes, including:

• Used all Coroplast.
• Carbon fiber spar pushed through the flutes to increase stability.
• Used 3/8″ square spruce instead of 1/4″ spruce. This increased the Kline-Folgeman step size.
• Changed the propeller to a 9×4.5 from 8×6.
• Increased the size of the Elevons for better response.

The CoroPlast is translucent and makes the wing look very modern and sleek.
