LOST – The Radio Control Episode

Yesterday my oldest son and I went flying at lunch. I had him on the buddy box flying the NJ One Design. He was doing very well, nice turns, smooth flight. Then we ended up over the trees and I could see he got a little disoriented so I took the plane back but it was too late and down into the trees it went. That would not be so bad as we were going slow and the NJ One is almost bullet proof. What is so bad is that I spent four hours looking for the plane last night and can not even see it.  It was like an episode from Lost or something.

Two minutes into the woods and I really did feel like I was in an episode of Lost. Not that I was lost, just that it was really creepy being in the woods alone. I kept expecting to see a polar bear (ok, for those who do not watch Lost I know there are no polar bears in NJ – its a Lost thing) or I expected “the others” to pop out and abduct me. Actually I would have been happy to see anything other that a sticker bush and Poison Ivy. I would especially have liked to see my airplane.
They say that during WWII the hedgrows in Normandy, France were impossible to penetrate and I now know what they mean. Someone must have transplanted those hedgerows here in New Jersey. I had to change into jeans, long sleeves, boots, and use a machete just to make my way through the growth under those trees. Even with all that I am still cut up from all the sticker bushes and thorns. If I can not find the plane in the next few days I am sure it will just be swallowed up by those bushes.

So tune into ABC next season, maybe this was a hidden camera reality episode of Lost.  If you see some half crazed guy trekking around the woods for four hours with a machete and gardening gloves on, that would be me.
